This class is a joint effort taught by the Rapid City Fire Department and Sydney Peters with Black Hills Breastfeeding and Beyond.

New Parent Health and Safety Class

Being a new parent can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to ensuring your little one's health and safety. Our comprehensive class is designed to equip new and expectant parents and caregivers with essential knowledge and skills to effectively prevent and respond to common medical emergencies involving babies and toddlers.

Topics Covered:

  • Choking prevention techniques

  • Baby proofing your home

  • Identifying and eliminating common hazards and risks in your environment

What You'll Learn:

  • Infant and child First Aid

  • CPR techniques tailored for babies and toddlers

  • Proper usage of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)

Certification: By the end of the class, participants will receive certification from the American Red Cross in First Aid/CPR/AED, providing you with the confidence and skills necessary to handle medical emergencies involving infants and young children.

Admission Details:

  • Cost includes attendance for two adults, recognizing the importance of having multiple caregivers informed and prepared.

  • While this class is designed with parents in mind, other caregivers including grandparents are welcome to attend.

Prepare yourself for the unexpected and join us in this invaluable class to ensure the safety and well-being of your little ones. Coffee and a light breakfast will be provided.
