This is the LAST class of 2024!

It is so important to learn about and prepare for childbirth. Yet many families underestimate the importance of preparing for breastfeeding, postpartum recovery, understanding your baby’s development, and learning about caring for your newborn BEFORE your baby arrives. This class covers everything new parents need to know for their upcoming birth AND those first several months with a new little one.  

This is an engaging and interactive group class for couples. It runs twice per week for 6 weeks, totaling roughly 24 hours of education.

  • Shared decision making and informed consent

  • Warning signs to look out for during pregnancy

  • Preparing for labor

  • Signs labor is beginning

  • Labor support

  • Phases and stages of labor

  • Labor progression techniques

  • Normal variations in labor

  • Pain management options

  • Induction and augmentation

  • Cesarean delivery

  • Establishing breastfeeding immediately after delivery

  • Birth and postpartum planning

  • What to expect before and after birth

  • Important questions to ask your provider

  • Bathing and diapering

  • Belly button stump care

  • Soothing techniques

  • Recognizing hungry and sleepy cues

  • Baby wearing

  • Common infant sleep practices and techniques

  • Managing discomfort in newborns

  • Maternal nutritional needs

  • Maternal comfort techniques for physical recovery after a vaginal or cesarean birth

  • Signs of postpartum mood disorders

  • Warning signs in the health of mom or baby

  • Establishing breastfeeding after birth

  • Common breastfeeding positions

  • Latch techniques

  • Breastfeeding resources

  • Establishing and maintaining an adequate milk supply

  • Medications while breastfeeding

  • Conditions in a newborn that can impact breastfeeding

  • Hunger cues and signs of fullness

  • Clogged ducts and mastitis

  • Identifying when to seek help

The class meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8 PM, beginning October 15th and ending November 21st.
